Research Into Music Magazine Contents Pages - NME.
The heading of this contents page is very big, it stands out a lot, it is also quite a bold serif font. It is black to keep with the house style and conventions of NME. The date is also underneath the heading which happens in every issue of NME, it is a real convention of the magazine. There are 7 pictures on this contents page, all of them are different shots, there is a close up shot, a mid shot and a long shot. The biggest image is in the middle directly under the heading which is where your eye goes first, he is stood staring out of the page with his arms folded so he looks very strong and dominant, also the background the photographer has chosen links in with his rough, dominant image as it is lots of posters that are peeling off the wall; I really like this image. I also really like the photograph of Johnny Marr, he is looking down at the camera so he looks like his is more dominant than us, like everyone looks up to him, but i like how the sun is coming through the tree and slightly going across his head, it looks very effective! Compared to the picture of Albert Hammond JR is looks very happy and up-beat.
Underneath each picture is a quote from the interview which I think is very effective because it gives the reader a taste of what was said in the interview which could intrigue them to buy this magazine. I also like how the quote is big and then the little bit about the interview is smaller and directly underneath the quote, this shows the reader what one of the interview subjects is which again could make them buy this magazine.
NME has stuck to the convention of presenting its contents page in columns, this makes it look very organised and more grown up than having things splattered all over the page. Also they have the numbers very big in the bottom corners of the pictures to make them stand out to the reader, the fact that it is red on white also makes it very clear who is on which page.
The 'Plus' section heading is nice, I don't know what font is used but the 'p' looks like it could be specially made for NME. The font used for the page title is very clear and easy to read. I like how they have laid this section out, with the page number above the VERY BREIF description of the page like 'reviews' and 'gig guide'.
There is an advert in the bottom left corner, but it is an advert for the magazine asking you to subscribe to NME and save money. It is red, white and black which is linking to the colour conventions of NME but because it stands out against the white page your eye is quickly drawn to it, I don't like how they are advertising the money saving subscription at the bottom of the contents page but it could help with persuading people to subscribe to the magazine.
